********** USING CURRENCYTRAX **********
Copyright Doug Scott - 1993
GENERAL INFORMATION & SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
This program will run on any system, using DOS 2.0 or higher and having a
minimum of 512k FREE RAM (640k is recommended). CURRENCYTRAX will look best on
a color monitor is recommended. A hard drive is STRONGLY recommended, as the
performance is greatly improved over using a floppy drive. Config.sys must be
set to a minimum Files=30 and Buffers=20.
When you run the self extracting file "CASH.EXE" you should have the following
files:
CASHTRAX.EXE
CASHTRX1.MAN
The file CASH.EXE can be deleted (if you copied it to your hard drive).
The first time the program is run, it will create 9 additional files:
USmoney.Dat USmoney.K03 USmoney.K06
Usmoney.K01 USmoney.K04 USmoney.K07
Usmoney.K02 USmoney.K05 USmoney.Mem
At most stages of the program, you will see "F-1 = HELP" in the upper left
hand corner of the form or table on the screen. If this notice is present,
you can press the F-1 key to access the on-line help for that function.
To get out of any option, press the ESCAPE key until you get back to where
you want to be. Pressing CONTROL and ESCAPE will immediately take you back
to the last menu screen.
All printouts are formatted for 8.5 x 11 fanfold (continous) paper. All
printing routines were tested on a Panasonic 1124 printer in EPSON mode and
should work on most compatible printers.
GETTING STARTED:
Type "CURRENCY" and press ENTER.
On accessing the Main menu screen, you will find the following options:
1) Open the U. S. Currency Catalog
2) View/Update Denomination File
3) View/Update Type Note File
4) View/Update Grade Codes
5) Print the Shareware Registration
6) A program quickstart (by pressing F-2)
7) Exit (by pressing ESCAPE)
Program options 6 & 7 are accessed by pressing the specified key and are
self-explanatory. Option 5 will print out a fill the blank SHAREWARE
registration form on any EPSON compatible printer. Option 1 will access the
currency catalog main menu. Option 2 lets you view/edit the lookup tables
for the currency denominations in your collection. Option 3 lets you
view/edit the type of currency note. And option 4 lets you view/edit the
condition grading codes. To choose options 1 - 5, simply use the up or down
arrow keys to HIGHLIGHT the choice and press the ENTER key to select it.
When you open the currency catalog, you will see the main menu. You now have
the following options available:
Look for currency by the Denomination
" the Type of Currency Note
" the Issue Series of the Currency
" the Signatures on the Currency
" the Issuing Bank (code)
" the Serial Number
Make Printed Reports
ENTERING YOUR CURRENCY COLLECTION:
To add a currency bill (or note) to the catalog, highlight any of the six
LOOK FOR options & press ENTER. Since there will be no bills to read the
first time you open the catalog, the program will automatically go to the
currency information form. Simply enter the currency information in the
proper fields on the form. You must enter the following: the currency
DENOMINATION, the TYPE of NOTE, the issue SERIES, the descriptions for both
the FACE and the REVERSE of the note, the SIGNATURES of both the TREASURER
and the SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY, the issuing BANK code, the SERIAL NUMBER,
the GRADE or condition of the note, and the LOCATION where you have the note
filed or stored.
Entering the information:
DENOMINATION: Enter the face value of the currency. You must enter the
the denomination amount as it appears in the Denomination LookUp table.
To enter a new denomination, press the INSERT key, type the information
into the space provided, and press ENTER to save the new denomination to
the table. Use the up and down arrow keys to HIGHLIGHT the correct
denomination and press ENTER to import it to the Denomination field of the
currency information form.
TYPE of NOTE: Enter the Note type from the Type LookUp table. Additional
types can be added by following the same procedure noted for the
Denomination table.
SERIES: Enter the series that is shown on the currency.
FACE DESCRIPTION: Enter the information on the face of the currency
note. (See a currency collector's catalog for what kind of information
to enter here.)
BACK DESCRIPTION: (Same as Face description.)
SIGNATURES: Enter the LAST NAMES of both the Treasurer and the Secretary
of the treasury as they appear on the currency. Type a - or a / between
the two names.
SEAL: Enter the COLOR of the seal and or type seal. (See a currency
collector's catalog for this information.
BANK CODE: Enter the one character code for the bank which issued the
currency. This letter code appears on the front of the currency.
SERIAL NUMBER: Enter the full 10 digit serial number as shown on the
currency. Although the serial number is of little significance for most
collectors, it is still an excellent way to identify a specific currency
note and is recorded in this catalog program.
GRADE: This is the same as currency condition. Again a lookup table is
available . As with the Denomination field, you can use only the
information listed in this table. You can add codes to this table by
following the same procedure given for the Denomination file look up
table.
YEAR OBTAINED: Enter the year that you bought or obtained the currency
note.
COST: Enter the dollar amount you paid for the currency. If you enter
the decimal point in the typed entry, the program will automatically
place in the amount correctly in the field.
LOCATION: This is a 10 position field to record where you have the
currency note filed or stored. Enter whatever you wish in this field,
just as long as it makes sense to you.
VALUE: This is the current appraised value of the currency. Enter the
same as for the cost field. Be sure to enter the data and source of the
appraisal in the notes field.
NOTES: This is a 360 character field to record any other information
that you wish to keep on the currency.
To save the information you have entered on the currency information form,
you can press the CONTROL & ENTER keys at any time (provided you have filled
in all of the required fields) or you can press the ENTER key until you have
"passed" all of the information fields.
If you make an error,, you can correct it before you press the ENTER key by
simply using the backspace key. If you have already gone to another field,
press the up arrow key or the ESCAPE key to back up through the form to the
field you wish to correct.
If you wish to abort the entire record and have not yet saved it, you can
press the CONTROL & ESCAPE keys.
After you have completed the first currency note, you will then go to the
LOOK FOR table you originally selected. To enter another currency note,
press the INSERT key and enter the new information as outlined above.
LOOKING AT YOUR CURRENCY CATALOG:
Now that you have entered some currency notes, you can use the other options
on the main menu.
The six LOOK FOR options allow you to view your currency collection listed
alphabetically by DENOMINATION, alphabetically by TYPE OF NOTE, numerically
by SERIES of issue, alphabetically by the SIGNATURES on the notes,
alphabetically by the issuing BANK code, or alpha-numerically by the SERIAL
NUMBER. In each of the options, enter your search criteria in the field at
the top of the viewing table. The program then highlights the currency note
which most closely matches the search criteria.
Each of the LOOK FOR tables displays 10 notes at a time. Use the up and down
arrow keys to scroll through the listings a note at a time. Use the page up
and page down keys to scroll a page at a time. If you press the CONTROL and
the PAGE UP keys together, you go to the first note in the list. Pressing
CONTROL and PAGE DOWN takes you to the last note in the list. When you find
the note you are looking for, HIGHLIGHT it and press ENTER. The note
information screen will appear with all of the information currently in file
for that note. You can now change any of the information in the record by
pressing ENTER until you get to the field to edit, making your changes and
pressing CONTROL and ENTER to save. By pressing the F-9 key you can print a
hardcopy of the note information. If you did not make any changes to the
note information, pressing the ESCAPE key will exit you back to the LOOK FOR
listing. The program also displays the number of notes currently in your
catalog in the upper left corner area of each table.
DELETING A CURRENCY NOTE:
If you wish to delete a note from your catalog, HIGHLIGHT the note on any of
the LOOK FOR listings and press the DELETE key. The information for that
note will be displayed on the note information form. If you still wish to
delete the note from your catalog, press ENTER. You can abort the delete
routine by pressing ESCAPE. CAUTION: once you have deleted a note, you can
not get it back. If you do accidently delete a note, you must re-enter it
the same as a new note.
MAKING PRINTED REPORTS:
The final option on the U.S. CURRENCY Catalog menu is for accessing the
printed reports function. Highlighting this option and pressing ENTER takes
you to the Printed Reports Option Menu.
At this point, you can choose to print your entire currency collection file
alphabetically by DENOMINATION, alpha-numerically by SERIES of issue, or by
the file or Storage LOCATION. The listings for the entire collection will
also print the total number of notes listed in the collection and the total
value of the currency collection (based on the dollar amounts you have
entered in the VALUE field). You can also make printed listings of the
currency notes for a specific DENOMINATION. When you choose the specific
denomination option, the Denomination file lookup table will popup and you
select the denomination you wish to print a listing for. This listing is in
a format similar to most currency collector's price guides. This makes it
easier to check and update the current value of your currency collection. On
completing the printed listing, the program returns to the last screen you
saw. You must press ESCAPE as many times as necessary to get back to where
you want to be in the catalog program.
VIEWING/UPDATING THE DENOMINATION, TYPE OF NOTE, AND GRADING FILES
(options 2, 3 & 4 of main menu):
The next set of menu options allow you to view and edit the current lookup
tables for currency denominations, the type of notes issued, or the grading
codes used. While viewing each of these lookup tables, you can select any
entry to edit (by highlighting it and pressing ENTER), select any entry to
delete (by highlighting it and pressing DELETE), or add a new entry (by
pressing the INSERT key, typing the new information in the space provided,
and pressing ENTER). Thus, you can work on these lookup tables while in the
currency information form or directly from the main menu.
SHAREWARE Policy and User Registration:
The concept of SHAREWARE is to try a program BEFORE you by it. If you like
the program and continue to use it beyond a specified period of time, you are
obligated to register your copy with the author. Since the registration fee
involved is usually small when compared to comparable commercial programs,
you can receive quality programs at very reasonable costs. Your registration
fee also supports the program authors and encourages them to produce more
quality products.
CURRENCYTRAX is distributed as SHAREWARE. You are allowed to use this program
free of cost for a 21 day trial period. You must register (or license) the
program if you continue to use it beyond this trial period. During the
SHAREWARE trial period, you may freely copy and distribute this program;
provided that the program is intact and in its original form (including all
SHAREWARE notices), and that no fee is charged for this distribution. Approved
SHAREWARE vendors may charge a nominal fee to cover their costs of
distribution. SHAREWARE vendors may also include other documentation and/or
files on the disk with this program, as long as no CURRENCYTRAX program files
are deleted or modified.
This program is copyrighted, Neither the SHAREWARE version nor the REGISTERED
version may be modified in any way without the author's prior written
consent.
On submitting the required $15 (US) registration fee, the author will send
you a REGISTERED version of the CURRENCYTRAX program. This REGISTERED version
will contain the owner's name in the Main menu screen and on the catalog
listing printouts. You are allowed to make a back up copy of this REGISTERED
version, but MAY NOT distribute copies of it to others.
